The work release center at Thurston County's new jail in the Mottman Industrial Park area is almost complete and expected to be under its $2 million budget, according to a county news release.
The 7,700 square foot building is expected to house the county's Correctional Options Program, which includes work release, electronic home monitoring, day reporting, day jail and community betterment programs.
The facility was built in an existing warehouse space next to the new Accountability and Restitution Center off Ferguson Street Southwest. The work release unit will house 78 male inmates and 18 female inmates in separate wings.
"The old facility is a modular building that was never intended to hold so many inmates for so many years," said Lt. Shawn Ball.
The new jail is expected to open later this year.
