South sound high school sports highlights

North Thurston stretched its winning streak to five games with a 14-1 victory over Wilson in 3A Narrows League game. Rams pitcher Tyler Ridgeway struck out five batters in six innings, and he hit a home run. North Thurston has scored at least 10 runs in four of its past five games.

Timberline remained unbeaten in 3A Narrows League play with a 9-1 victory over Lincoln. Zach Owens pitched four innings to earn his first victory of the season. Matt Mercer went 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in two runs and Chris Roy had three hits for the Blazers.


Megan Mendonca struck out five and allowed four hits to help Yelm earn a 7-1 nonleague win over North Thurston. Breann Robertson had a two-run home run, and Tessa Matthews went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead the Tornados.

Nikki Schroeder went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI, and Sam Kabat had two hits and scored three times in Olympia’s 14-0 shutout of Foss. The game was halted after five innings because of the mercy rule. Bri Bell added a two-run home run for the Bears, whose pitchers held Lincoln without a hit.

Timberline’s offense was held in check by Gig Harbor pitcher Anna Hitt as the Tides took a 10-0 win in nonleague play. Krista Jones had the Blazers’ only hit. Follow high school sports by reading Meg Wochnick’s blog at
