Puget Sound residents can take advantage of free vehicle leak checks this month, according to a news release.
More than 80 jurisdictions, including the City of Lacey, have teamed up with the Automotive Service Association to offer the free leak checks, valued at up to $80 this month.
If leaks are found, drivers can get up to 10 percent off the service to fix the problem, the release siad.
Fixing vehicle leaks helps protect local waterways, according to the state Department of Ecology, which estimates seven million quarts of oil are released into the Puget Sound each year from leaking vehicles.
