The City of Lacey received the Tree City USA award for the 22nd consecutive year.
The annual award is from the National Arbor Day foundation. Lacey was one of the first city in the state to earn the designation in 1992.
Since then, the city has spent $3 million on tree planting and care, giving away 25,000 free tree seedlings to residents.
The 2013 seedling giveaway is from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday or until supplies run out at Huntamer Park in Woodland Square.
Species of tree available this year include red leave Japanese maple, Eastern Redbud, golden raintree, Katsorta tree and noble fir. The seedlings are up to three feet in height and are limited to one per person.
