Joel Lang will begin work July 1 as the new principal of Leland P. Brown Elementary School in Olympia.
For the past three years, he has been principal at Saltar’s Point Elementary School in the Steilacoom Historical School District. Before that, he was dean of students at South Bay Elementary School, which is part of North Thurston Public Schools.
“I am looking forward to forging strong and lasting relationships with the students, staff and families of L.P. Brown,” Lang said in the news release. “It’s an honor to be given that opportunity.”
Lang has a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University and a master’s in education from Pacific Lutheran University. He also has administrative credentials from Seattle Pacific University.
“Mr. Lang’s instructional background, coupled with his leadership skills, will be an excellent match at L.P. Brown” Olympia school superintendent Dick Cvitanich said in a news release. “His strong communications skills with students, staff and parents marked his tenure at Saltar’s Point, and I know that will continue here.”
Lang will replace interim principal Linda Heade, who has led the 250-student school during the past school year while the search was underway for a permanent hire.
The process included a search committee of district staff, families at the school and Cvitanich. The Olympia School Board approved Lang’s hiring during its meeting Monday night.Lisa Pemberton: 360-754-5433 email@example.com www.theolympian.com/edblog
