Police say a man was under the influence when he drove off Yelm Highway and into a house early Sunday morning.

The 27-year-old was driving west on Yelm Highway at 1:28 a.m. when he missed a curve, driving into a home on the corner of 61st Avenue Southeast and Ruddell Road, according to Thurston County Sheriff's Sgt. Kevin Slease.

The car hit the back corner of the garage. No one was hurt.

"There was extensive damage to the garage and his car," Slease said.

Slease said the man initially fled the scene, but a family member brought him back and he was arrested.

The man was booked in Thurston County Jail where he is being accused of hit and run property damage and driving under the influence.
