A sailboat caught fire Friday night at West Bay Marina in Olympia, causing an estimated $75,000 in damage, according to a news release.

Olympia firefighters were called to 2100 West Bay Drive NE at 5:41 p.m. to find a 26-foot sailboat on fire. The only person aboard had already evacuated by the time crews arrived.

Firefighters extended hoses about 700 feet from the shore to the dock to reach the fire and were able to contain the flames before they spread to neighboring boats or the dock. The boat did not sink.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Three Olympia fire engines, a ladder truck, a command unit and engines from Thurston County Fire District 9 and Tumwater Fire District responded. Crews stayed at the scene as a precaution overnight. There were no signs of flammable liquids or oil being released into the water.
