Small wildfire creates heavy smoke in Morton

May 5, 2013

Firefighters are attacking small wildfire on private timber land southeast of Centralia.

Karen Ripley of the Department of Natural Resources says the 10-acre blaze was reported about noon Saturday in eastern Lewis County near Riffe Lake. She says it was producing a large amount of smoke.

The blaze was burning in steep terrain that includes recently logged areas and an 8-year-old tree plantation.

There were no evacuations or injuries.
