Olympia tests new parking meters

May 9, 2013

Mark Lane of Olympia's Parking Services department installs one of 10 test pay meters Wednesday morning near the corner of Franklin Street and 4th Avenue. The city hopes that the combination of simpler operation and a more traditional look will make paying easier for customers compared with the controversial kiosk systems. Although the new units can utilize existing meter casings, they offer new technologies, including credit card payment. Ten more test meters from another company will be installed today around the downtown core. Users can provide feedback on the meters at www.olympiawa.gov/parking.
