THURSTON COUNTY: Police will focus on seat belts, cellphones

lpemberton@theolympian.comMay 14, 2013

Attention drivers: Buckle up and put the phone down.

Between May 20 and June 2, law enforcement agencies are teaming up for countywide “Click it or Ticket” patrols in search of unbuckled drivers and passengers, and drivers who are illegally using their cellphones.

Last year, during the same time period, officers issued 3,171 seat belt violations and 1,059 cellphone violations.

The extra patrols are part of Target Zero and will be conducted by the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington State Patrol, the Chehalis tribal police, and Lacey, Olympia and Yelm police departments.
