The Thurston County Auditor’s Office is warning citizens about a property deed scam offering citizens a copy of their property deed for a fee of $89, when the service is actually much cheaper.
Thurston County Auditor Gary Alexander states in a news release that an Olympia firm called “Local Records Office” is offering the $89 service. The company is sending mailings to property owners across the state offering the $89 property deeds.
Copies of property deeds are available at the Thurston County Auditor’s Office for $1 per page. Certified copies are also available at the auditor’s office for $3 for the first page, and $1 for each additional page.
The firm Local Records Office poses as a look-alike government entity, in an attempt to portray itself as a legitimate business, the news release states.
“No one should pay $89 for access to their property deeds,” Alexander states in the news release. “It is just a scam and many people don’t read the disclaimers.”firstname.lastname@example.org
