DuPONT Tumwater High School junior Kayla Monroe fired a 3-over-par 75 in her final round Tuesday to win the medalist honor at the 2A District IV girls golf championships at The Home Course.
Monroe, who was the Day 1 leader after shooting an opening-round 83 on Monday, had a two-day total of 158 (83-78-158) to win the individual title by four shots ahead of Mark Morris' Megan Schulz (162).
With four golfers placing in the top 10, Capital won the team title with 159 points, edging out runner-up Hockinson (156). The Cougars were led by Naomi Yamamoto, who was fifth with a two-day total of 170, followed by teammates Kelsey Wilder (sixth, 180), Hollianne Wieland (seventh, 185) and Alison Kweciak (ninth, 191). Monroes first-place finish led the Thunderbirds to fourth place as a team (79).
The top 17 golfers advance to next weeks Class 2A state tournament at The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway May 21-22.
