Tumwater’s Monroe, Capital team earn titles

DuPONT — Tumwater High School junior Kayla Monroe fired a 3-over-par 75 in the final round Tuesday to take first place at the Class 2A District IV girls golf championships at The Home Course.

Monroe, who was the Day 1 leader after shooting an 83 on Monday, had a two-day total of 14-over 158 to win the individual title by four shots over Mark Morris’ Megan Schulz (84-78—162).

With four golfers placing in the top 10, Capital won the team title with 159 points, edging Hockinson (156). Tumwater was fourth.

Capital was led by Naomi Yamamoto, who finished fourth at 179, along with Kelsey Wilder (sixth, 180), Hollianne Wieland (seventh, 185) and Alison Kweciak (ninth, 191) .

The top 17 advance to next week’s 2A state tournament at The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway. The tournament starts Tuesday.
