Bicyclist struck in Olympia at Eastside Street and Union Avenue

Staff writerMay 16, 2013

The Olympia Police Department is investigating a bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle at the corner of Eastside Street and Union Avenue Thursday about 4:30 p.m.

The bicyclist was taken by ambulance to Providence St. Peter Hospital, but his injuries do not appear to be life threatening, a police officer at the scene said.

A driver of a sport-utility vehicle was driving behind the bicyclist as both were headed south on Eastside Street, the officer said. The SUV driver clipped the bicyclist's rear wheel while attempting to make a right turn onto Union Avenue, and the bicyclist went down, the officer said.

The crash is under investigation, an officer said.
