After one season away, Chillious returns to Huskies

Washington has added Raphael Chillious back to its basketball staff.

Chillious was with Washington for three seasons (2010-12) before leaving for Villanova in August 2012.

A move among UW’s coaching staff was anticipated after the school added T.J. Otzelberger on May 7, yet there was hesitation to specify staff roles.

The roles of Washington’s numerous assistants remain unclear. Only three assistants may participate in coaching practice.

Chillious and Otzelberger are known for recruiting, while longtime assistants Jim Shaw and Paul Fortier have worked various roles. Shaw puts together the schedule and also does a large amount of recruiting. Fortier coached the big men before moving to a new title of director of player development and personnel last season.

Brad Jackson joined the Washington staff last season when Chillious left, and the Huskies moved to the high-post offense, which is Jackson’s forte.

The departure of Lamont Smith after one season opened a spot on the staff that Otzelberger filled.

Now, the Huskies bring Chillious back to the mix.

The charismatic Chillious helped recruit Tony Wroten and worked with Isaiah Thomas, among other guards. Wroten and Thomas now play in the NBA. @Todd_Dybas
