OHS cheerleaders helped at state Special Olympics

OlympiaJune 12, 2013

The Washington State Special Olympics were recently held out at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. I manage the marshaling area for track and field events on the base and wanted to give a public acknowledgement to the Olympia High School cheerleaders who showed as volunteers all day Sunday. They not only were wonderful at one-on-one with an assigned athlete, but they also spent time doing cheers for groups of athletes as they waited to be staged for their events.

Their smiles, kindness, and gentleness with the participants were awesome. Their caring helped keep the athletes energy and enthusiasm high.

The Olympian is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
