Annual ‘Friends of Mia’ soccer tournament is Saturday-Sunday at the RAC

The annual Friends of Mia alumni soccer tournament, which benefits pediatric cancer research, is Saturday and Sunday at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey. Games begin at 9 a.m. both days. Friends of Mia is a non-profit group founded in 2009 for families affected by childhood cancer and is named after Mia Deligeannis, who passed away April 2012 at age 5 of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

This year’s soccer tournament features alumni from Capital, North Thurston, Olympia, River Ridge, Timberline, and Tumwater high schools and has moved to the RAC from its previous location, South Sound Stadium. Capital won last year’s event, defeating Olympia in the championship game. Here’s the schedule of games set for this weekend which feature two, 25-minute halves each game:
