Lacey boy in critical condition after near drowning Saturday

June 15, 2013

A 4-year-old boy is in critical condition after nearly drowning in a Lacey pool Saturday, according to a Lacey Police Department news release.

The incident was reported at 3:55 p.m. at Diamond Head Apartments, 1510 College St. S.E. The boy's father fell asleep and woke to find the child no longer in the apartment.

The boy's father searched the apartment grounds and found the boy unresponsive in the pool, the release said.

The father got the boy out of the water and carried him to the apartment, notified neighbors and began CPR.

A Lacey police officer took over CPR until medics arrived on scene. The boy was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia where staff were able to get a pulse. The boy was then airlifted to Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma where he remains in critical condition.
