Doggie Olympic Games
What: The games provide an event where owners and dogs of all ages, sizes, shapes and abilities can bond, play and laugh together in a friendly, competitive environment and to provide education for responsible pet ownership, according to the games’ website. The event is sponsored by the Long Beach Merchants Association.
When: June 29. Registration will be open 11 a.m.-1 p.m., the opening ceremony will be at 12:30 p.m. and the games start at 12:45 p.m. You also can download a registration form on the website.
Where: Events will take place south of the Bolstad Avenue beach approach in Long Beach.
Pre-event party: on June 28, from 4-7 p.m., there will be a pre-registration pizza party. There will be special events for puppies who are too young to participate in the games, as well events for older dogs (more than 10 years of age). The party will take place at The Breakers hotel.
The games: The individual events are ball toss, agility, sleep off (dog laying still the longest wins), hot-dog-eating contest, best shedder, best singing dog, obedience course, musical “chairs” for dogs, peanut butter licking, frisbee throw and doggie dash.
Fees: Participation in events is $10 each or five or more for $40. Watching is free.
