An Olympia firefighter broke his arm at a fire that destroyed an abandoned home Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported by a neighbor at 2:30 a.m. on the corner of Union Avenue and Fairview Street, said Olympia Assistant Fire Chief Pat Dale.
The home had been abandoned for some time.
“We arrived and it was fully engulfed in flames,” Dale said.
Crews were on the scene for several hours, but had yet to determine a cause of the blaze. A 36-year-old firefighter and nine-year veteran with the department broke his arm after slipping in the yard. He was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital.
“He will be off duty for an extended period of time while his arm heals,” Dale said.
Olympia fire had four engines and a battalion chief as well as an additional engine and battalion chief from Lacey Fire District firstname.lastname@example.org
