Two Thurston County men were injured in a crash north of Shelton on Tuesday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Astagfarr Ahmath, 23, of Olympia was driving a 1997 Honda CRV north on state Route 3, one mile north of Shelton, when he missed a turn at 10:22 a.m.

Ahmath allegedly tried to turn around and backed over an embankment. He was injured and flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Ahmath’s passenger, 30-year-old Philip Estes of Lacey, was injured and taken to Mason General Hospital in Shelton.

The cause of the crash was determined to be improper backing. Charges were under consideration.
