A man wanted for outstanding arrest warrants led Olympia police on a short foot chase in west Olympia that ended with his arrest in the 1100 block of Fern Street after 1 p.m. Thursday.
Olympia police got a tip Thursday afternoon that the man was at the Abalon Pointe Apartments on Black Lake Boulevard visiting an ex-girlfriend, in violation of a protection order requiring him to stay away from her, Olympia Police officer Jeff Herbig said. When police showed up, the man fled, barefoot, and ran west on Fern Street.
Several units responded and surrounded the area before the suspect was found and taken into custody.
The man was treated by emergency responders on the sidewalk for a foot injury before being taken by patrol car to the Thurston County Jail. Police had to draw weapons before taking the man into custody, Olympia Police Department spokeswoman Laura Wohl said.
Herbig said police have had prior calls that the man was showing up at the Abalon Pointe Apartments in violation of the restraining order.
