Motorcyclist hospitalized after colliding with deer

A San Francisco motorcycle rider was hospitalized after colliding with a deer nine miles south of Toledo in Lewis County Thursday night, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Thomas I. Newland, 55, was riding a 2012 BMW R1200GS north on state Route 505 at 9:20 p.m. when he hit a deer and was thrown from the motorcycle.

Newland was injured and taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital. He was wearing a helmet, according to the release.
