2 Olympia riders injured in Centralia motorcycle crash

June 29, 2013

Two Olympia residents were hospitalized after driving a motorcycle off the road and into a Centralia creek Friday afternoon.

The crash was reported at just before 6 p.m. on North Gold Street. A 22-year-old man and his 22-year-old passenger went off the road in a curve and ended up in a creek, according to the Centralia Police Department.

Sgt. Kurt Reichert said the particular curve has a high volume of crashes.

"Generally it's a wintertime thing with people hitting it too hard and there is a creek right there - they slide right off the road and into the ditch," Reichert said. "It's back roads and people think they can go fast."

Both were wearing helmets and taken to Providence Centralia Hospital with injuries. Excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash.
