School’s toy-gun event puts value on reading

On June 29, in the Yays and Boos column you said that the toy-gun buy back event in a California elementary school was “good intention but silly and overreacting. I don’t think so.

Not only was it a good intent but a wonderful idea. Why do children need to be pointing guns at their friends when they can be reading a book?

It all begins somewhere and to me, reading is more important in the education of our children.
