The Port of Olympia says the 48 solar panels atop its 76,000-square-foot marine terminal warehouse are beginning to pay dividends.
Here are the results so far:
-Total return generated: $5,581.
-Reduction in energy costs: $581.
-Electricity generated: 9,687 kilowatt hours.
-Return on investment: 5.5 percent.
The port added the solar panels to the warehouse in 2011 after replacing the 25-year-old roof the same year.
The Olympian reported in June 2011 that the initial cost to replace the roof and add solar panels was $883,000.
