Resident supports council majority on shoreline plan

OlympiaJuly 25, 2013

It irritates me when someone writes a letter about shoreline management and claims to speak for the people of Olympia. I am just speaking for me, and I appreciate the balanced judgment on shoreline management being shown by Mayor Buxbaum and council members Hankins, Cooper and Langer.

I like and and use parks as much as the next guy, but I know it takes city tax revenue to support police, fire and parks. Let’s not reduce property taxes, business taxes and sales taxes in pursuit of a romantic fantasy.

I enjoy patronizing the waterfront businesses such as the Bayview Market, the Dockside Bistro and the Budd Bay Cafe.

I don’t think an unpatrolled, non-maintained park would be a soothing environment, and that is what I think would be the real result of the “alternate vision.”
