West Central Park to hold food festival

The greenspace at Harrison Avenue and Division Street is the place where folks can get a Bite of West Olympia on Saturday.

West Central Park, a privately owned community park, will host a selection of mobile food vendors and music from 3-7 p.m.

Vendors will include Iron Rabbit, Tamale Fusion, the Westside Tavern, Olympia Coffee Roasting Co., Vic’s Pizza and OlyPops.

“We wanted to highlight a lot of local restaurants and food establishments,” said Alicia Elliott, the owner and developer of the park.

Meanwhile, there will be music from the Back Porch Swing Band, Charles Adler and Deaf Lester, Elliott said.

“It’s going to be a nice flow of music and people,” she said.

Elliott spent $450,000 of her own money to buy the 0.64-acre parcel for the park in December. Now she and a community board are coming up with plans to improve the park with a food court, landscaping, a water feature, trees, and sitting areas, among other features.

The group will be selling ice cream for $1 on Saturday to raise money for the effort, she said.

Elliott said there are about 18 parking spaces for people who are driving. But she mentioned the site is also accessible by bus and on foot.

This is the second big event for the park. The first, on June 29, brought about 200 people to the park to see crafts, musicians and food vendors, Elliott said.
