School supplies, canned or packaged food, books, personal hygiene items and new or gently used books will be collected from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday in the Fred Meyer parking lot, 555 Trosper Road SW, Tumwater.

The “Stuff the Bus” event is organized by the Tumwater Public School Employees.

“We are collecting school supplies which we will use to create 500 backpacks for kids who need help,” school district spokeswoman Kim Howard said.

Cash donations also will be accepted to help fund after-school activity scholarships offered through the city Parks and Recreation department.

Other donations will go to support Thurston County Food Bank, YWCA Other Bank, South Sound Reading Foundation and Tumwater United for Families.

For more information, call the school district at 360-709-7000.
