People traveling to the North Sound and central Washington should be aware that a section of state Route 2, northwest of Leavenworth, will be closed to traffic the week of Aug. 25-30.
The closure, during the week leading up to Labor Day, is needed to complete construction on the highway and bridge at the north end of Tumwater Canyon near Tumwater Campground.
There will be a detour available to Leavenworth. Local traffic will be allowed, permitting people to drive from Leavenworth to the Alps store in Tumwater Canyon or from Coles Corner to Tumwater Campground, but not all the way through the canyon. All other traffic will be diverted around to the Chumstick Highway via the Lake Wenatchee-Plain area.
The state Route is expected to reopen around noon Aug. 30.Compiled by Jeffrey P. Mayor, email@example.com
