Man stabbed in torso in downtown Olympia

Staff writerAugust 15, 2013

Olympia police are investigating an early Thursday morning stabbing in the 300 block of Fourth Avenue downtown.

A person leaving Jake's about 3 a.m. discovered the stabbing victim in the sidewalk, OPD spokeswoman Laura Wohl said.

The man had been stabbed in the chest. He was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital, where he is expected to recover from his injuries.

"It was a serious stab wound but doctors think he'll be okay," Wohl said.

Police have not yet been able to interview the stabbing victim, because he was in surgery Thursday at the hospital, she added. The man is believed to be a 32-year-old man from Rochester.

Detectives aren't sure what happened yet, because the man who discovered the stabbing victim did not witness the crime, Wohl said. The motive for the stabbing is unclear, and detectives will continue to investigate, Wohl said.

Anyone with information about what happened, or who committed the stabbing, is encouraged to call the Olympia Poice Department at 360-753-8300, or Thurston County CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Callers to CrimeStoppers can always remain anonymous.
