DUI emphasis patrols in Thurston County start Friday

OlympianAugust 16, 2013

Law enforcement agencies across Thurston County are participating in DUI emphasis patrols Friday through Sept. 2, according to a news release from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

Lacey, Olympia, Tenino, Tumwater and Yelm police; the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office; the Washington State Patrol; and the Chehalis and Nisqually Tribal Police will all be participating in the extra patrols.

The patrols will target intoxicated drivers, including drivers who drive impaired while using marijuana, according to the news release. The goal of the extra patrols is to keep families safe during the vacation travel season, the release states.

The emphasis patrols through Labor Day weekend are part of the commission’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
