The Evergreen State College’s men’s soccer team, fresh off its first playoff-bound team last fall for the first time since 2005, opens its season Saturday hosting Trinity Lutheran College at 1 p.m.

Evergreen placed second in the Cascade Collegiate Conference last fall and won its way to the CCC title game. The Geoducks, under the direction of reigning CCC coach of the year John Purtteman, are led on the pitch by reigning CCC defensive player of the year Brady Espinoza and newcomer of the year Willie Spurr.

Also on the roster are familiar faces from the Class 2A Evergreen Conference, including Jacob Zimmerman (Capital) and Juan Lopez and Juan Oropeza (Aberdeen). Lopez was a three-time 2A EvCo offensive MVP, scoring 74 goals and 27 assists in his high school career.
