Farm animals killed in Lacey barn fire

Staff writerAugust 23, 2013

Twenty chickens and several ducklings were killed after a barn caught fire off Johnson Road Southeast in Lacey on Thursday night, according to a news release.

The homeowner saw flames coming from his detached barn in the 7400 block of Johnson Road Southeast near Evergreen Valley. It’s believed a warming lamp came into contact with combustibles, igniting the fire that engulfed the barn.

No other animals were injured in the blaze.

Lacey Fire District 3 responded with three engines, a water tender, a truck company and a battalion unit. East Olympia Fire District 6 responded with a water tender.

The fire was extinguished in 15 minutes.
