WSP suspects DUI in crash that injures Yelm man

Staff writerAugust 24, 2013

A 21-year-old Yelm man was seriously injured Saturday morning in a high-speed rollover accident just south of the city.

Washington State Trooper Guy Gill said the man will be charged with a DUI.

“He’s incredibly lucky he survived the collision,” Gill said. “The vehicle caught fire and burned up after he got out.”

Gill said the accident happened at approximately 1:35 a.m. when the man, who was northbound on state Route 507 just south of Vail Cut Off Road, left the roadway at a high rate of speed and rolled over. No other vehicles were involved.

Gill said the man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and is expected to survive.
