Do background checks on other civil rights?

OlympiaAugust 31, 2013

I agree, we need universal background checks on all gun purchases. In fact, I say we take it a step further and require background checks on other enumerated civil rights.

Priests should undergo strict background checks and registration, and persons purchasing a book or newspaper subscription should be required to pass a background check to ensure they don’t read terrorist literature or learn how to mix dangerous chemicals. Needless to say, voters should have to pass an instant background check, and pay an annual license fee to be allowed to vote. And I’m all for making protesters register their signs and submit to a background check before being allowed to protest.

I’m certain as soon as we get common sense background check laws for guns that those supporting them will happily place the same restrictions on other civil rights. After all, it’s for your own safety.
