Timberline football preview story: Neil-Evergin is Blazers' go-to guy

Rainier football preview story: New coach gives Mountaineers promise

About the Blazers

Coach: Nick Mullen, seventh season

2012: 9-2, won 3A Narrows, advanced to first round of Class 3A state playoffs.

Offense: Coordinator (set) -- Anthony Hicks/Jeb Dorns (Pistol); returning starters: 4

Top players: OL Cole Stevens, 6-3, 265, sr.; QB Gabe Gutierrez, 5-11, 170, jr.; RB/DB Asan Neil-Evergin, 5-9, 175, sr.; WR/DB Stevie Cleveland, 5-7, 170, jr.; OL Dylan Reinhold, 6-1, 260, sr.

Defense: Coordinator (set) -- Mullen (4-3); returning starters: 7

Top players: DB/FB Jeff Winstead, 5-7, 190, sr.; LB Benny Kaleiwahea, 6-0, 200, sr.; DB Javon Watson, 5-8, 165, sr.; LB David Harper, 5-11, 185, sr.; DB/WR Trent Gallagher, 5-8, 175, sr.

Outlook: The road to the 3A Narrows League crown should once again go through the Blazers. ... Winstead (five INTs, 12 TFLs in 2012) is one of the league’s top returning defensive backs, and Gutierrez, now 20 pounds heavier, looks for his first 1,000-yard passing seasons. He threw for 818 yards in seven starts before breaking his throwing arm in Week 7 against Mount Tahoma. ... Mullen is seven wins away from earning his 50th career win as a head coach, all with Timberline.
