2 dead after vehicle hits tree 10 miles east of McCleary

Staff writerSeptember 4, 2013

Speed was a factor in a crash that killed two people about 6 p.m. Wednesday on eastbound state Route 8 10 miles east of McCleary, State Patrol trooper Guy Gill said.

A 19-year-old Montesano man and a 19-year-old McCleary woman, the only occupants of the 1994 Mazda Protegé, were confirmed dead at the scene, he said.

Troopers identified the two as Craig Thiessen and Alexis Guzman.

The vehicle, driven by the man, left the road, hit a tree and split into two pieces, according to WSP.

The man was not wearing a seat belt, and was ejected from the vehicle, Gill said.

A witness told troopers the man had been driving at a high rate of speed before the crash, Gill said.
