WEEK 1 WINNER: Yelm's Jacob Rash

---

A new blog feature this football season is a weekly high school football player of the week, with votes coming from you -- the readers. Each week, we'll pick the best individual performances from the gridiron and let you decide who the player of the week is.

Here are five nominees to vote for high school football player of the week.

-- Rochester running back Tyler Yarber rushed for 229 yards on 25 carries and scored two touchdowns in the Warriors' 34-0 win over Ridgefield.

-- Timberline linebacker David Harper had a sack, two tackles for loss, and returned a fourth-quarter punt 50 yards for a touchdown in the Blazers' 40-0 shutout of River Ridge.

-- Jacob Rash's pick-6 (35-yard INT return) and a 25-yard rushing TD -- both in the first quarter -- sparked Yelm in its 48-0 win over Highline in coach Jason Ronquillo's debut with the Tornados.

-- W.F. West quarterback Tanner Gueller threw for 200 yards on 8 of 11 passing and five touchdowns (yards of 80, 49, 22, 18 and 5) in the Bearcats' 41-6 win over Port Angeles.

-- Rainier quarterback McKoy Bichler helped the Mountaineers win their first season-opening game in three years with 192 yards rushing and four touchdowns in the Mountaineers' 42-7 win over Naselle.
