Thurston County sheriff's deputies are investigating an attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl that occurred about 6:20 p.m. Sunday in the 7000 block of Merkel Way NE.
The girl reported that she was taking out the trash in her front driveway when a car pulled up, a man got out and grabbed her by the arm and attempted to drag her toward the vehicle, Thurston County Sheriff's Sgt. Ray Brady said.
The girl said she started kicking and screaming, and the man released her, returned to his vehicle and sped off, Brady said. The girl had scratches and marks on her left arm that are consistent with her account of the man grabbing her, Brady said.
The assailant is described as a Hispanic male, with dark skin, a dark buzz haircut, a skinny build, and about five-feet, eight-inches tall. The girl said there was an accomplice in the vehicle during the incident, Brady added.
Merkel Way NE is located in the Thompson Place subdivision off of Martin Way.
The assailant's vehicle is described at a beat-up, faded green Honda, with tinted rear windows. Brady said it took the girl's mother about a half-hour to report the incident to sheriff's deputies. The attempted abduction is under investigation by the detectives division, Brady added.
