Davis is on the record for taking back market

Port of Olympia Commissioner Jefferson Davis is on the record about taking back the Farmers Market at the Dec. 10, 2012, commissioners’ meeting. You can watch the video if you want to hear exactly what he had to say.

One thing that Davis suggested at the Dec. 10 meeting was that the Port could do a study to determine if the community value of the Farmers Market justifies the economic loss that the market poses to the Port.

Let’s think about that for a minute. The Port relies on $4.8 million in tax revenues each year from Thurston County property owners to cover its losses and the marine terminal is the biggest loser of them all. So what is the solution that Davis comes up with? Take back the market to expand cargo laydown space for the marine terminal.

We can have large community-based economic activity like the Farmers Market or we can expand the marine terminal for more special interest economics to operate behind the fence and out of sight.

Davis thinks it may be time for Port of Olympia to take back the Farmers Market. I think it’s time for a change at the Port of Olympia. I think it’s time to elect Sue Gunn as Port Commissioner.
