UPDATE: A 22-year-old man who jumped from the Lilly Road overpass onto southbound Interstate 5 in Olympia Wednesday night is paralyzed from the neck down, according to his mother.

"He has a punctured lung, he broke both of his shoulders, he's in bad shape," the man's mother told The Olympian on Friday.

A 22-year-old man jumped just before 10 p.m. from the Lilly Road Northeast overpass onto southbound Interstate 5 in Olympia Wednesday night, State Patrol trooper Guy Gill said.

The man suffered only minor injuries, if any, and was being taken to a hospital for evaluation, Gill said.

As of about 10:30 p.m., Gill said the freeway should be cleared shortly.
