Grief counselors were at River Ridge High School and Timberline High School in Lacey on Friday following the death of a student who attended both schools.
The 18-year-old female student collapsed outside on the River Ridge campus at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, according to North Thurston Public Schools spokeswoman Courtney Schrieve.
Witnesses called 911, and medics transported the student, whose name has not been released, to a local hospital where she was later confirmed deceased, Schrieve said.
“We don’t know the cause of death, but we know it was something medical,” she added.
The district used the School Messenger system to inform families about the incident, in the event a student may have witnessed the scene, and been upset by it, or was affected by the death of their friend.
“While the student had only been at River Ridge for a few days, and was not well-known by the school community, it is nonetheless a tragic loss of a young life,” Schrieve said.
