I am a proud resident of Olympia’s Eastside neighborhood. One of the reasons I love our neighborhood is our willingness to support those who face real challenges in their lives. We are home to the Salvation Army shelter and one of our churches twice hosted Camp Quixote.
But, once it became clear that our community has a real need for a low-barrier shelter, I am hearing thundering opposition. I am hopeful that those are just the loudest voices and not a general consensus.
We need to continue this conversation, and be open to adding a low-barrier shelter to our neighborhood.
