Glee's Derik Nelson returns to South Sound to raise money for high school arts programs

Black Hills High School alums Riana and Derik Nelson perform a selection of their music during a January 9, 2012, appearance at their alma mater.The siblings are working in Hollywood, and have returned to their former school for a day to perform at assemblies and encourage kids to follow their dreams, with Derik currently playing in the house band for the television show Glee.

Singer and songwriter Derik Nelson’s “Take Chances Tour” begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Timberline High School Theater, 6120 Mullen Road SE, Olympia.

The concert series, which is open to the public, is raising money for high school arts programs. Nelson, who grew up in the Olympia area, is the guitarist on the FOX television show “Glee.”

Nelson also has three other concerts scheduled. They are:

* 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Capital High School, 2707 Conger Ave. NW, Olympia. 

* 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at Black Hills High School, 7741 Littlerock Road SW, Tumwater.

* 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at North Thurston High School Performing Arts Center, 600 NE Sleater-Kinney Road, Lacey.

Tickets range from $15-30 and can be purchased at each venue or at www.deriknelson.com.
