What happens when you need a shelter’s services?

To the homeless and chronically mentally ill, I say, ‘Not in my backyard.’ Then it turns out to be my neighbor. I say, ‘Not in my backyard,’ then it turns out to be my uncle. I say, ‘Not in my backyard,’ then my heart is broken, because it is turns out to be a member of my own family. I say, ‘Not in my backyard,’ then it turns out to be me.
