Capital freshman Sarah Paquet won her first high school race in the girls 5-kilometer run (21 minutes, 11.31 seconds) as the Cougars took the top four spots in Wednesday’s three-way dual cross-country meet with W.F. West and River Ridge. On the boys side, Capital senior Ben Monk made his season debut, winning the 5K in 16:23.06.
Olympia boys and girls swept Shelton at Lake Isabella State Park behind the first-place finishes of Peter Kesting (10:10.33) and Ariel Wilhite (12:28.32) in the 3,000-meter race.
Olympia improved to 4-0 after its 3-0 sweep (25-5, 25-8, 25-6) of Stadium in 4A Narrows League volleyball. Senior Rachel Kelson had a match-high 11 kills, and Kayla Thaller had 17 assists.
Marguerite Henderson (50 freestyle), Kylie Otton (100 butterfly), Annie Senior (100 free) and Ashley Castle (diving) earned victories for Tumwater in its 109-67 girls swimming win over Centralia-W.F. West.
Chris Burien’s epic 7-6 (10-8), 1-6, 11-9 win over Cole Holbrook at No. 1 singles helped Yelm win its non-league boys tennis match, 3-2, over the Tumwater.
Capital’s Nos. 1 and 2 singles players — Ty Gentry and Vlad Suslikov — each swept their matches, 6-0, 6-0, in a 5-1 win over Black Hills to remain unbeaten in the 2A Evergreen Conference at 3-0.
