Mentally ill man sentenced for Centralia attack

The Associated PressSeptember 19, 2013

— A man who attacked three paramedics when they were filling their ambulance at a Centralia gas station was sentenced Wednesday to a year and a day in prison.

Wade C. Buchanan pleaded guilty earlier this month in Lewis County Superior Court to assault charges for the unprovoked Jan. 26 fight with the American Medical Response paramedics.

The Chronicle reports  two were bitten hard enough to draw blood.

To become competent for trial, Buchanan was treated for nearly five months at Western State Hospital where court records say he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

With credit for time served, the 47-year-old Olympia man will be released early next year.
