A coalition of government agencies and private groups are coordinating Washington’s effort during the International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday.
Volunteers of all abilities are needed, organizers said in a news release. If you can hold a bag, you can help. While some people carry garbage bags to roadside trash bins, others fill bags and leave them on the beach to be collected by volunteers operating four-wheel drive vehicles.
While much of the effort will focus on coastal beaches, there are some work parties being held at Puget Sound locations, including Purdy Spit and Alki Beach Park.
Along with Washington State Parks and the Pacific Northwest 4-Wheel Drive Association, other sponsoring groups include the Clallam Bay Sekiu Lions Club, Discover Your Northwest, Olympia Coast National Coast Marine Sanctuary, Olympia National Park and Surfrider Foundation. The Quileute and Hoh tribe will be holding similar events on tribal beaches.
