Hey, governor, how about pay increases for teachers?

OlympiaSeptember 21, 2013

I see Gov. Inslee is raising the salaries of his staff. I am wondering if there is a plan to raise the salaries for teachers. The Olympian newspaper reported salary increases of 15 percent to 17 percent for some of Inslee’s staff. In truth, I would just love to have a $117,000 salary.

Realistically how about a cost-of-living raise that teachers have not had in years? I know the governor is a big supporter of education and is also new to his office, but he should know that teachers in this state also have “salaries that are out of whack with job duties.” Many of our teachers work hard to get students to college and struggle to afford their own kids’ college education.

I hope Inslee’s staff comes up with strategies to increase teacher pay across the state.
